Title: Distribution of marine litter along the Ría de Arousa coastline using modelling and mapping
Responsible Partner: INTECMAR
Date: Septembre 2021
Download: Link
Description: The document describes the methodology developed for the location of the accumulation zones of marine litter in the Ría de Arousa using numerical models, a local scenario located in Galicia, NW of Spain.

Title: Guide for shoreline segmentation in buffers using QGIS
Responsible Partner: INTECMAR
Date: December 2020
Download: Link
Description: The goal of this guide is to describe the methodology to obtain a GIS file that contains the coastal sections where the marine litter particles that arrived to the coast can be counted. Each coastline section is actually a polygon, consisting of a piece of coastline and a certain thickness, which is where the particle is considered to have beached.

Title: MOHID Lagrangian Tool: Software necessary to include marine litter processes in an open source lagrangian transport tool
Responsible Partner: IST and USC
Date: Septembre 2021
Download: Software, Installation guide (pdf), Short user guide (pdf)
Description: This software includes marine litter processes in an open source lagrangian transport model (The MOHID Lagrangian Tool). An installation guide, and short installation guide are also available for download.

Title: Validation of a Lagrangian model for large-scale macroplastic tracer transport using mussel-peg in NW Spain (Ría de Arousa)
Responsible Partner: USC, INTECMAR & MARETEC
Date: May 2022
Download: Link
Description:In this work, a validation of a recently developed Lagrangian computational model to track the movement of macro plastics in seas and oceans is presented. This validation is performed on a regional scale, in the Ría de Arousa, one of the most important estuaries for mussel cultivation in northwestern Spain. During mussel cultivation in rafts, a type of floating plastic stick are released, the mussel-pegs. The potential of this study is that to compare the accumulation results of the model with the accumulation data collected on the Galician beaches.

Title:Modeling the Exposure of the Macaronesia Islands (NE Atlantic) to Marine Plastic Pollution
Responsible Partner: ARDITI
Date: April 2021
Download: Link
Description: In this study, the potential sources and pathways of marine plastic litter reaching the archipelagos of the Macaronesia region (Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cabo Verde) were assessed by coupling a particle tracking model (OceanParcels) with datasets for ocean currents (GLORYS12V1 and GLORYS2V4), waves (WaveWatch III) and wind (ECMWF ERA-Interim).

Title: Dynamics of floating marine debris in the northern Iberian waters: A model approach
Responsible Partner: IEO Vigo
 Date: February 2019
Download: Link to publication
Description: In this work, the Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS), in conjunction with a particle-tracking model, has been used to study the distribution of floating debris in the northern Iberian waters.
